HOW TO CROCHET A DIFFERENT SQUARE AND EASY TO MAKE FOR RUG, BLANKET, BAG AND MORE

Here’s a detailed pattern for crocheting a different crochet square. For this pattern, we’ll create a textured square with a mix of stitches to give it a unique look. Let’s get started!

Stitches used:

  1. Chain (ch)

Step 1: Begin by forming a slip knot. Craft a loop with the yarn, insert your hook through, yarn over the hook, and pull through to create the slip knot.

Step 2: Create a chain of 4 stitches. This chain forms the base for your square.

Step 3: Connect the chain to form a ring. Insert your hook into the initial chain stitch and make a slip stitch to join the ends together.

Step 4: Round 1 – Commence the square’s first round:

  • Start by creating a chain of 3, counting it as your initial double crochet for this round and the rest of the pattern.
  • Next, work 2 double crochets into the ring.
  • Chain 2.
  • Now, create 3 double crochets into the ring, followed by chaining 2. Repeat this sequence from * to * two additional times.
  • Finish by connecting the round with a slip stitch into the top of the starting chain-3.

Step 5: Round 2 – This round will create the corners of your square:

  • Slip neatly into the following 2 stitches, smoothly sliding into the corner chain-2 space.
  • Craft a chain of 3, marking it as your inaugural double crochet.
  • Create an additional 2 double crochets (dc) within that very corner space.
  • Add a chain of 2.
  • Fashion 3 double crochets in the subsequent chain-2 space. Chain 2. Continue this sequence twice more from start to finish.
  • Unify the round with a composed slip stitch at the summit of the initial chain-3.
2

Step 6: Round 3 – This round is the same as Round 2, but it will add more stitches to the sides and corners:

  • Join the next two stitches with a slip stitch and move into the corner chain-2 space.
  • Start with a chain of 3, marking it as your initial double crochet.
  • Create two additional double crochets in that very corner space.
  • Make a chain of 2.
  • Fashion three double crochets within the following chain-2 space. Chain 2. Repeat this pattern *to * three more times.
  • Connect the round by slipping into the top of the beginning chain-3.

Step 7: Fasten off and weave in the ends:

  • Cut the yarn, leaving a tail.
  • Pull the tail through the loop on your hook and tighten it to secure the last stitch.
  • Thread the yarn tail onto a yarn needle and weave it through the stitches on the back of your work to secure it.

Round 1:

Begin by initiating a ring with Color A, utilizing either a magic ring (adjustable ring) or by chaining 4 and connecting to create a ring.

Next, chain 3 (considered the initial double crochet), work 2 double crochets, then chain 3.

Repeat the pattern from * to * three additional times. Complete the round by joining with a slip stitch to the top of the starting chain 3.

Upon completion, you’ll have four sets of 3 double crochets, each set separated by chain 3 spaces.

Round 2:

Switch to Color B.

Connect Color B to a CH 3 space using a slip stitch. Start with a CH 3 (which serves as the initial double crochet), followed by 2 DC. Then, in the same CH 3 space, make CH 3 and 3 DC (creating a corner). Proceed to the next CH 3 space, crafting 3 DC, CH 3, and 3 DC (another corner). Repeat this corner pattern in the remaining two CH 3 spaces. Finally, link it all together with a slip stitch to the top of the starting CH 3.

Round 3:

Switch back to Color A.

Combine Color A with a slip stitch in any corner’s chain-3 space.

Start with a chain-3 (counting as the first double crochet), then work 2 double crochets, chain 3, and 3 double crochets in the same corner’s chain-3 space (creating the corner).

Moving to the space between the 3 double crochet clusters, perform a front post double crochet around the middle double crochet of Round 1 (the double crochet of the cluster below).

In the following chain-3 space, work 3 double crochets, chain 3, and 3 double crochets (creating another corner). Then, in the space between the 3 double crochet clusters, execute a front post double crochet around the middle double crochet of Round 1.

Repeat this corner sequence and front post double crochets in the remaining chain-3 spaces and spaces between the clusters.

Finish by joining with a slip stitch to the top of the initial chain-3.

Round 4:

Switch to Color B.

Join Color B with a SS in any corner CH 3 space.

Connect Color A to a chain-3 space at any corner with a slip stitch.

Chain 3 (this counts as the initial double crochet), then work 2 double crochet stitches, chain 3, and 3 double crochet stitches all in the same corner chain-3 space (forming a corner).

In the subsequent space between the 3 double crochet clusters, create a front post double crochet around the middle double crochet of Round 1 (the double crochet from the cluster below).

Within the following chain-3 space, produce 3 double crochet stitches, chain 3, and 3 double crochet stitches (forming another corner). In the subsequent space between the 3 double crochet clusters, execute a front post double crochet around the middle double crochet of Round 1.

Repeat this corner pattern and the front post double crochets in the remaining chain-3 spaces and spaces between the clusters.

Finish by joining with a slip stitch to the top of the initial chain-3.

Round 5:

Switch back to Color A.

Connect Color A to a chain-three space at any corner using a slip stitch (SS).

Start with a chain of three (which serves as the first double crochet, DC), then work two DC, chain three, and three DC all in the same corner chain-three space (creating a corner).

Around each back post double crochet (BPDC) from Round 4 (the BPDC below), create a BPDC in the spaces between the double crochet clusters.

Within each chain-three space, form three DC, chain three, and three DC (forming another corner).

Duplicate the corner sequence and BPDCs in the remaining chain-three spaces and spaces between the clusters.

Finish by connecting with a slip stitch (SS) to the top of the initial chain-three.
